Organizational movements and associated pain !

So I move on to a new role within the same organization. Agreed, totally different role and disassociated with my present job I am surprized (and not shocked) to come across the pain I am experiencing while moving within the system.

I remember reading Plato's writings on social organizations (at that time the concept of Multi-national corporations was non-existent) and as these organizations grow in size across geographies people in such complex social structures will come across problems that are clearly avoidable but the inflated system in itself is responsible for all the inherit problems.

Take for example my own movement, I have to surrender everything my present organization gave to me (When I joined close to around two years back) and now although theres a physical and logical change in geography I will have to run through the same pain all over again. Things as small as bank accounts, corporate credit card, cell-phone connectivity, etc.. the list is endless. The more and more organizations talk about the so called 'seamless' experience to employees while they navigate roles the more complex these structures are shaping up. This certainly is undesirable (in my opinion) and needs fundamental changes in workflow arrangement

Enough, I have to go and apply afresh for a prescribed check list of services I would need irrespective of me staying the system for all these months. Experience as if I am joining a different company!

The irony of Indian Political System !

Presidential elections is the latest topic doing the circles across the country. Will it be Pratibha Patil or Jaswant Singh, or will it be Prez Kalam again (although media reports 'confirmed' he is out of contention)?? Although media is working over-time in digging down as much 'intelligence' as possible on these candidatures (some Television channel today reported the dhaba Pratibha Patil frequently dines at, in Jaipur and how the chef described about what dishes she likes) the real question is - are we moving away from the main issue? Just because some political segment wants to back Pratibha Patil just because she is a Marathi 'bahu' or the first woman to be nominated for the President role.

The fact remains that the President of India is the head of state. Also called the 'first' citizen of India and the Supreme Commander of armed forces. Yes, the President's role is largely ceremonial, with real executive authority vested in the council of ministers headed by the Prime Minister. I agree that the executive powers are as directed by the council of Ministers but at the same time it's important to choose someone who is much beyond a rubber-stamp, cutting across political boundaries, gaining respect of the political fraternity and hopefully the country (wishful thinking, in my opinion!!).

President Kalam was the closest fit to the above broad pre-requisites and with the current nominations I don't forsee the probable candidates with even 50% conviction as that of President Kalam. He had his share of failures and resistence..... dissolving Bihar Assembly was one, and staying order on the hanging of terrorist Mohd. Afzal. I will not explore moral grounds by arguing around capital punishment but of firm belief that the President shouldn't have reconsidered his plea.

Like in business, when you write 'net/net' on the balance sheet, the country at large (and I FOR SURE) believe Kalam was reasonably successful. He should have recontinued a second term, but the irony of Indian Political System is such that.....
